Geelong Apron Making Day for the Apron Project

Venue: In Geelong, close to public transport.  Bring your materials—machine or hand sewing, textile materials etc depending on what you intend to make. Venue details to be confirmed.  Email Atasda Vic by 31st May to register your attendance and how you may like to participate.  You can also decide to come on the day, but numbers will help with booking a location.

This important project raises funds for local communities and awareness of the growing epidemic of Domestic and Family Violence.   We are asked to create art on an apron.  Designs should uplift, create connection and acknowledge the women who care, love and stand for us.

There are 3 ways to participate:

  1. Contribute a smaller textile piece or art on a pocket to be sewn on to a group apron entry which will be auctioned.
  2. Make an entire apron on your own for auction.
  3. Make an apron that will sell for $25.  These aprons should be simple sewn, beautiful fabrics, made with loving intention for the wearer.

We have set a Goddess of the Garden theme for our group’s auction apron.
Anyone contributing smaller pieces please use the bold and bright colourway in the image as a guide.
Textile art pieces made can be flowers, plants, leaves, garden critters, birds etc.

If you are unable to meet in person your art pieces can be posted to Narelle Higgins by August 5th (email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for address).   We will finalise our apron at the August Retreat.

All aprons are due in NSW by the 1st September.  For more information: https://eatcakecreate.com/apron-project-2023/

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Australian Textile Arts & Surface Design Association, the exhibition, A Touch of Gold, explores artist's concepts of the theme. Intriguing use of fibre and mixed media define this contemporary display of expressive textile wall hangings, 3D objects and wearable art which all reveal a physical 'touch of gold'.
Working with diverse art practices, techniques and materials, sixty ATASDA members have created a rich tapestry of textile artworks employing fibre, weaving, felting, dyeing, printing, traditional and contemporary embroidery, and stitch techniques. Some historic pieces by renowned Australian textile art practitioners are included in this celebratory exhibition.
