Textile Tasters offer a skills-based, non-sequential one-day, mid-week program of eight workshops. Tasters are structured so that participants 'dip' into the program to try something new or develop skills. It is envisaged skills learned will enhance your fibre arts' practice. As a bonus Tasters allows participants to meet some of ATASDA's tutors and member community.
Rod Byatt - Ties, Closures, Joins, Braids and Cords
Wednesday 16 July 2008
Rod has a strong background in traditional braids, cords and bands. His Taster workshop presents an opportunity to learn (or revise) simple braids and cords, using the cardboard/foam disks, both round and square. Garments from around the world will be used to demonstrate handmade closures, ties and joins without buttons or zippers. As well as hands-on work with Japanese and other braids, up for discussion will be their ornamental and functional uses - braids as couched embroidery on cloth, ornamental knots, garment ties and closures for books and boxes.
Marie-Therese Wisniowski - Disperse Dyeing
Wednesday 6 August 2008
This workshop is an introduction to the dye sublimation process (transfer printing). A fun and exciting class where students will create their own custom dyed fabric using disperse dyes via direct imaging and experimental exercises. We will 'transfer print' disperse dyes onto papers first and then transfer them to polyester and blended fabrics to create a suite of color and pattern studies via an iron or heat press. With these new skills you will be able to collage, layer, appliqué, free motion embroider and hand and machine embellish your newly made fabrics into truly unique creative expressions.
All levels welcome to this one-day workshop.
Inga Hunter - Beading
Wednesday 24 September 2008
Embellish your textile work with beads to get the richest effect with the least amount of work. You will learn classic bead stitching methods, together with many which only come out of the USA creative beading tradition. You will learn how to bring your beading up and out of the fabric. This isn't safe, neat stuff - it is free and wild! And there are no rules - except that the beads should stay on the fabric.
There will be a fee of $10 for unusual and difficult to find items.
Anne van der Kley - Custom cords and braids created with your overlocker
Wednesday 22 October 2008
